"EAST MEETS WEST: Fifty Years of Painting"

Joan Sommers, a member of the Artist Studios of Fearrington Village and The Chatham Artists Guild, will hold a salon retro retrospective of her art. Joan's art that spans fifty years and was influenced by the far off placed she has lived- Thailand, The Philippines, China, Indonesia, Egypt and Poland.
"Throughout my journey", Sommers states, "I have attempted to combine my western ideas and training with the principles of eastern aesthetics. It is that tension of east and west that has been my inspiration; the desire to blend and balance ideas of contrast and similarity, continuity and disruption. My journey has been an ongoing search for symmetry of expression. And in that search, I paint across cultures through time.
Her paintings are available for viewing and for sale. Visitors will find over sixty works, exquisitely created, in oil, watercolor, Chinese brush and acrylic. On Saturday, Sept 22nd at 3:00 p.m. Joan will give a demonstration of "wet mounting" for rice papers.

Directions: Fearrington Village is 8 miles South of Chapel Hill off of 15-501 and 8 miles North of Pittsboro. From 15-501 turn into Fearrington Village at the entrance with the large silo. Stay on Village Way past the first intersection. Turn Right at the next intersection and then turn left on East Camden. Follow this to the end of the road. 29 East Madison is on the left hand side, second from the end.
